Piano Instruction

Our instructors teach the fundamentals of piano including classical technique, note reading, music theory, good practice habits, and performance decorum.

By creating a unique balanced program for each student, instructors at The Piano Key teach beyond the fundamentals listed above. Each student learns how to memorize music, analyze structure and harmonies to better prepare a performance, and train the ear to recognize what notes on the printed page should sound like before they are played.

Students are able to choose from a large variety of supplemental music to enhance skills and play for fun including styles such as popular hits, Broadway, movie, jazz ,and seasonal selections.

All students are invited and encouraged to take part in National Piano Playing Auditions, held each year in the Spring. The National Piano Guild sponsors these non-competitive auditions to establish goals for the earliest beginner as well as the artistic adult. Students are adjudicated by a judge from the Piano Guild right here in our studio, and earn a report card, certificate, and fraternity pin for completing the audition. Many of our students are proud to mark their many years of achievement from this nationally recognized organization on college applications. For more information about Piano Guild Auditions click here.

In addition to private lessons, tuition includes Key Sessions, a monthly masterclass for teenagers that allows students to listen to each other play and get introduced to other pianists in the studio.

We offer Music for Little Mozarts for children as young as four who are interested in learning to play the piano. This special course incorporates a continuing story, singing, movement activities, and piano playing to keep young children motivated and engaged in learning the piano.

The Piano Key instructors love to have adults too! We have extensive experience teaching adults to read music and play piano from day one, and teaching adults who may have played before.
